LIQUID ASSET
Liquid Asset (Alene Marie) is the hardware techno project of Alene Marie. A Philadelphia-born, North Carolina-based producer with releases on Schmer, Sublimate Records, New York Trax, Summer Isle, Primitive Languages, Jacktone, and Acid Etch. Her current artistic intentions lean towards aural considerations of qualities and quantities of time via mathematics, and the act of transformation; where interconnectedness between seemingly disparate elements is revealed.
Sonically, she enjoys exploring mutations of classic dance cannon sounds, building her own electronics and using modified 303 909 808 sounds. Live sets contain heavy rave orientation and labyrinthine synth compositions traversing psychedelic sonic terrain into dreamy dub. She has performed nationally at clubs and festivals such as Sustain-Release, Elsewhere (NYC) Bossa Nova Civic (NYC) Hot Mass (PGH) Honey Soundsystem (SF) Vertex (LA)

ARTIST'S BIO
BUTTERBALL
In June of 1997, along with a series of other unexplained phenomena, a crop circle appeared overnight in a field behind an eastern North Carolina Butterball turkey processing facility. Even more concerning than the crop circle itself, however, was the young boy found at its center. Outfitted in nothing but a small pair of Wrangler jeans and clutching a pack of Camel cigarettes, the boy could utter only the "la da dee la dee da" vocal melody of Crystal Water's "Gypsy Woman." Horrified and confused by what they'd discovered, employees of the Butterball facility loaded the boy into the back of an F-150 and drove to nearby Raleigh, NC before unloading him onto the front steps of a nightclub. Curious, the boy wandered in and began to party, and the rest is history.
Focusing on classic dance music from Detroit and beyond, Butterball brings with him a mixed bag of tracks highlighting unique instruments and disco & jazz inspired melodies that stick. However, you're likely to hear a few recognizable party anthems of the past woven in, too. His selections are more often two-steppers than fist-pumpers. Bring your dancing shoes, leave your egos at home, and let the good times roll.
Foundations Is Back!
Wow, y’all. It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve seen you...right?! And, to be honest, we’ve been missing you, and The Fruit, a lot these past few months! But we’ve been working on something special, as we promised this summer.
What have we been up to? Welp, at the close of Moogfest 2019, owner of The Fruit Tim Walter and cofounder of The Floor Morgan “Strider” Haynes took some time to start thinking about how the basement could be utilized differently. They began brainstorming. Visited sister clubs conducting “field research” 😉 (in underground spots in New York, DC, Charlotte, Toronto, etc.) and benchmarked their ideas to ensure that Durham-area partygoers would get the most fitting experience possible. The designs looked great, and the renovations began early this fall. This week The Fruit’s facilities team is installing finishing touches, and The Floor is planning to host a soft launch in the newly configured basement!
What's changed? We hope you’ll come to see for yourself, but look forward to two new bathrooms downstairs! We’ve also carved out some space for DJs to prepare and perform all while keeping the personality of the space intact — grimy, brooding, and intimate.
Why are you getting this in your inbox? This soft opening is a limited promo event because we want all our steadfast supporters to get a taste for the space before the general public. You’ve been soldiers. Sticking with us from the early days and dancing your asses off until 6 am some nights. So, we wanted to give you your own time in the space. Feel free to spread the word as we used to (friend-to-friend), share an Uber/Lyft with your favorite buds, and come chill with us this Saturday!
We’re charging $5 at the door. You’ll get The Floor crew on the decks (Strider, Marshall Jones, thefacesblur, Marie, as well as a special guest appearance by DJ Darkcyde) from 10p until. Door contributions go right back into the system, helping us fund future parties (we’re currently in conversation with some special underground guests from New York and DC). If you'd like to pitch in a little Xtra, we'll have a donation button/bucket at the POS station.
Alright, that’s it. We’re hopping off to finish prep for Saturday. We’re looking forward to seeing you party people this Saturday 11/16 for an improved edition of “Foundations.”
With so much love,
The Floor
